Conclusion

Besides Sembawang and Simei MRT platforms, the rest of the stations that are above ground seem to be 4G ready. Having said that, having 4G reception on a particular train platform doesn't necessarily equate to having 4G coverage in the particular area, town or during the journey to the next station.

We've reached out to SingTel on the 4G reception issues faced at the Sembawang and Simei MRT platforms. A SingTel spokesperson commented that the telco is currently investigating the issue with HTC. It is believed to be an intermittent fault.

Apparently, we aren't the only ones facing issues of similar nature. Two HTC One XL users in our forum have reported not getting any 4G signal on their devices even in areas that are supposed to have 4G coverage. As SingTel and HTC continue to investigate the matter, here's a list of troubleshooting tips for HTC One XL users who have difficulties connecting to the 4G network:

  • Turning on Airplane Mode for a few seconds before deactivating it

Switching to airplane mode will reset your mobile device's connectivity to the network and increase the chances of connecting to the 4G network when you exit the airplane mode.

  • Insert a different microSIM card

Based on our experience during the 4G testing, switching SIM cards can sometimes alleviate the connectivity issues.

  • Factory reset

If all else fails, do a factory reset of your device. Remember to backup your important data before carrying out a factory reset.
