Samsung Ultra II Edition

In Part 1, we visit Samsung at their telecommunication booth where many world’s firsts were displayed, such as the world’s slimmest phone, world’s highest megapixel camera phone and so on. Samsung’s presence at CeBIT 2007 included a huge telecommunications booth in Hall 26 that showcased its numerous mobile phones, including the latest Ultra II edition and Ultra Special models.

While the Ultra II edition models were previously unveiled at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, the four models made a reappearance at CeBIT 2007 to satiate the desire of the public to feel, touch and listen. Here they are again…in case you’ve not heard or seen them.

 The Samsung Ultra II 10.9 edition model (U600) was shown in Barcelona and again at CeBIT 2007. Supporting EDGE, GPRS Class 10 with quadband network frequency support (850/900/1800/1900MHz), the U600 comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera, 2.2” 240 x 320 super-sparkling mirror display with features like audio playback (MP3/ACC/eAAC+/WMA) and Smart Search. Beyond standard features like MMS/e-mail/JAVA/WAP 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0/USB 2.0, it has a business card recognition function and uses microSD for memory expansion. At present, it has 60MB of built-in memory and measures 103.2 x 49.3 x 10.9mm.

 Of course, between the 10.9 and 12.1 is the Ultra Edition 9.6 (U300) goes the clamshell route while being encased in a magnesium finished clamshell design. It supports EDGE/GPRS Class 10 and network frequency support on the 900/1800/1900Mhz band. Its camera has a 3-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, sports a 2.2” 240 x 320 display with a 96 x 16 gray OLED display. Supporting music playback (MP3/ACC/eAAC+/WMA/WMDRM) and video (MPEG-4/H.263), the U300 comes with Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 high-speed with background music play, Smart Search with a 70MB built-in memory and measures 100 x 51 x 9.6mm.

 The Samsung Ultra II 5.9 edition model (U100), dubbed the world’s slimmest phone, was also shown in Barcelona and again at CeBIT 2007. Supporting EDGE, GPRS Class 10 with triband network frequency support (900/1800/1900MHz), the U100 comes with a 3-megapixel camera with Auto Focus, 1.93” 220 x 176) display with features similar to the 10.9 edition. While it supports only Bluetooth, it has USB 2.0, Smart Search and Background Music Play. It has no memory slot but a built-in memory of 70MB, and measures 105.5 x 50 x 5.9mm.

 As slim as the Ultra II 5.9 gets.

 The third Ultra II model -- the Samsung Ultra II 12.1 (U700), supports HSDPA 3.6Mbps and EDGE with network frequency support (900/1800/1900MHz) + 2100MHz. Sporting a 3-megapixel camera with Auto Focus, 2.2” 240 x 320) display with features similar to the 10.9 edition including Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 high-speed. It has video playback features supporting the MPEG-4/H.263/RealVideo format plus a wheel key interaction function. It has a built-in 20MB memory plus expandable microSD card slot. It measures at 102.5 x 50 x 12.1mm.
