Coming just 9 months after the RX10 II, the RX10 Mark III retains the same size and look overall.
As we mentioned in our news piece here, the headlining feature is the F2.4 - 4, 24 - 600mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens. Yup, 600mm.
Here it is at full telephoto extension (600mm in 35mm equivalent). Is this still a compact camera?
That said, we think this camera is going to be very popular among travelers and nature shooters.
And at full wide angle (24mm in 35mm equivalent).
The amazing retraction is possible because 1.) it actually retracts into the camera body and 2.) it has a fixed lens design.
First impression: We like that there’s a nice, deep handgrip on the camera, which is important when shooting at the longer focal lengths.
And a ribbed tab on the side of the aperture ring, allowing for better feel. And yes, that's a Zeiss lens.
This switch actually turns off the click sounds from the lens, allowing you to adjust aperture silently when recording video.
Two custom buttons and your usual assortment of controls line the top.
While a nice large LCD that dominates the rear. This is tilt only, with no touch capabilities.
Your usual ports can be found on the left of the body, but do note the extra custom button behind the Zeiss logo.
Meanwhile, on the right side is the NFC spot, and a slot for a single SD card. For video lovers, the RX10 III can do 4K recording with full pixel readout without pixel binning.
The RX10 III again retains a pop-up flash, with an effective range of 1.0m to 6.5m at ISO 100 - 6400.
