3M is celebrating its 50th year in Singapore and showed us some of their newest products. 3M Singapore was founded in 1966 with eight employees, it now employs more than 1,600 staff across three sites in Woodlands, Tuas and Yishun.
You might think that each column here has multiple lights, but there’s actually only a single source of light at the start of each column. Highly reflective 3M Enhanced Specular Reflector (ESR) film line hollow aluminum ducts to transport light across the entire length, and optical plates redirect light at the openings to illuminate the space.
Here’s one of those hollow aluminum ducts, with the highly reflective 3M film inside. 3M calls this its Channel Lighting System, and it has the benefit of delivering uniform light with a minimal light source, which cuts power usage. Channel Lighting is also useful in critical environments; because the length of the duct provides light while staying inert.
Yes, that’s a working motherboard submerged in liquid. 3M 2 Phase Immersion Cooling lets you immerse electronic parts in a bath of high dielectric (insulating) fluid without damaging them. When the electronics heat up, it boils the surrounding fluid, which converts to gas and rises to the cool condenser, after which it turns back to fluid and returns to the bath.
If you look closely, you can see that there’s only a single source of LED lights along the back row of the top panels. The 3M Airguide Modulated Lighting Panel uses light management films to transmit light, and because the light source isn’t directly above the plants, you don’t throw heat onto them. The multi-color LEDs let you mix colors for the precise wavelengths that plants need to grow.
