It's not just all about Micro Four Thirds this time round though, as Olympus also introduced us to a new range of Mju cameras, including upgrades to their distinctive Tough cameras.
One of the highlights of the day was the SP-800UZ, a 30x optical zoom camera that records 720p HD movies. Its focal length ranges from a 35mm equivalent of 28mm wide-angle to 840mm telephoto. Available in March 2010.
The SP-600UZ is the other super-zoom, a 15x optical zoom camera that records 720p HD movies. Instead of a custom battery, it runs on AA batteries, and includes 1GB of internal memory. Its focal length ranges from a 35mm equivalent of 28mm wide-angle to 420mm telephoto. Available end of February 2010.
The Mju Tough-8010 was an exceptionally tough looking camera, and for good reason as this is the Tough series' new flagship model. It's waterproof up to 10 meters deep, shockproof from falls as high as two meters, freeze-proof to temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius, and the body is able to resist forces of loads up to 100kg per foot. From our short time of handling the prototype, we remember the cool rivets on the body, how solid it felt in our hands, and it has a clever double-locking mechanism for the SD/battery slot. Camera features include 5x optical zoom, 2GB built-in memory and 720p HD movie recording. Coming in March 2010.
The Mju Tough-6020 is another addition to the Tough lineup, with more colors to choose from. It's waterproof down to 5 meters, shockproof against falls from 1.5 meters, freeze-proof at temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius. It records 720p HD movies and comes with 2GB built-in memory. Coming in March 2010.
The Tough-3000 is a friendlier, trendier looking Tough camera, which is waterproof down to three meters, shockproof from falls as high as 1.5 meters, freeze-proof to -10 degrees Celsius, records to 720p HD movies with 1GB of built-in memory. Available now.
The Mju-9010 and 7040 are super-zooms in compact bodies. The 9010 does 10x optical zoom while the 7040 goes up to 7x. Both record 720p HD movies, and have 2GB of in-built memory. Available February 2010.
