OCZ Summit 2006 APAC - Memory, Motherboards and More Overclocking Goodness

Sneak Peek - ASUS Commando

Sneak Peek - ASUS Commando

Fresh from ASUS engineering labs was the newest member of their Republic of Gamers series of motherboards – the ASUS Commando. This also happens to be the mystery motherboard used in OCZ's overclocking demonstrations so far. While the hottest motherboard on the block has to be their NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Striker Extreme, the Commando is based on the Intel P965. The most interesting thing about the Commando is that it's more of a lean value board designed around extreme overclocking bandwidth and better tweaking freedom rather than a feature frenzy like the Striker Extreme. Basic features that we can see from the engineering board at the moment are the Intel P965/ICH8R chipset, FireWire-400, Dual Gigabit LAN, HD Audio (Supreme FX add-on card), full solid capacitors and 8-phase capless PWM.

Unlike the Striker Extreme, the Commando is a simpler board focused on overclocking and tweaking.

The ASUS Commando is very heavy on PCI slots with no PCIe x1 slots at all. Those with many expansion cards should love this board.

Like other ASUS RoG boards, there is a Debug LED at the rear panel. If you don't see audio ports, it's because the board uses an expansion audio card.
