IT Show 2016: HWZ's picks for the best monitors

Readers shopping for a new monitor at the IT Show 2016 are spoilt for choice. Gaming monitors, particularly, are packed with lots of technologies these days and IPS display technology has finally caught up to a point where they are fast enough to be able to be use for gaming. This means better colors and crisper visuals. We now also have a good selection of curved monitors to choose from, which are are great not just for gaming, but also for regular productivity tasks and entertainment. Here are the monitors that you should keep a look out for at the IT Show 2016.

Acer Predator X34

If you got the cash to splash, the Acer Predator X34 is our pick. The Predator X34 has a super-wide curved 34-inch display that outputs a resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels. It also supports G-Sync and offers refresh rates of up to 100Hz. It even has an integrated 4-port USB 3.0 hub that users can use to charge and connect peripherals such as input devices, mobile devices or external storage devices.

Price: S$1,499 (U.P. S$1,699) and comes with free Razer gaming mouse, USB, DisplayPort and HDMI cables and 3-years on-site warranty. Link to IT Show brochure.

ASUS PG279Q

For most gamers, the WQHD or 2,560 x 1,440 pixels resolution is the sweet spot. 4K displays are great, but you need serious hardware to be able to run games at such high resolutions with graphics settings turned up to maximum. On a 1440p display, the hardware requirements are considerably more relaxed. And if you are looking for a WQHD display, the ASUS PG279Q will blow your socks off. It uses an IPS panel, which means bright and sharp visuals, and an incredibly high refresh rate of 165Hz - the first of its kind in the world, according to ASUS. This is a monster display that can easily match up to your gaming rig.

Price: S$1,309 (U.P. S$1,369) and comes with free HDMI cable and World of Warships in-game items.

Dell P2715Q

We get it, not everyone wants to buy a monitor to play games. If you are looking to get a monitor just for everyday use and productivity tasks, it’s difficult to go wrong with Dell. The Dell P2715Q is our pick because of its gorgeous 4K IPS display. Under the right situations, the 4K display makes everything look crisper and sharper. Text, in particular, looks really smooth and creamy.

Price: S$849 (U.P. S$899). Link to IT Show brochure.

Samsung S27D590CS

Curved displays are great especially if you spend a lot of your time at your computer watching videos. And curved displays needn’t be expensive. Samsung’s S27D590CS is an affordable 27-inch curved display that supports Full-HD 1080p resolution and even comes with built-in speakers. If you are looking for a fuss-free display for entertainment, this is it.
