Blu-ray Disc Association's Press Day Conference

There has been a lot of buzz at Press Day by the Blu-ray Disc Association, including appearances by key vice-presidents and executives from major movie studios supporting the Blu-ray Disc format. These included the Sony PlayStation 3, 20th Century Fox, Warner Home Video and Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

Blu-ray movies are coming!

Some upcoming Blu-ray Disc movies planned by the movie studios are as follows:

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment First wave out worldwide in November, with Japan by Nov 10 and North America, Australia and Europe by Nov 14:-
  • Ice Age: The Meltdown
  • Behind Enemy Lines
  • Fantastic Four
  • Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut)
  • Kiss of the Dragon
  • The Omen (666)
  • The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
  • Speed
  • The Transporter

Discs are expected to cost US$39.98/CAN$49.98 each.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment First slated for October:-
  • Hitch
  • The Exorcism of Emily Rose
  • RV
  • The Fifth Element
  • Hostel
  • A Knight's Tale
  • S.W.A.T.
  • Tears of the Sun
  • Underworld Evolution
  • Ultraviolet.

Countries planned include Australia, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Holland, the Nordic countries, Spain and the UK.
Warner Home Video First wave by late 2006:-
  • Firewall
  • Syriana
  • Full Metal Jacket
  • Training Day
  • Space Cowboys.
Paramount Slated for fall 2006 is M:i:III and Mission Impossible Trilogy Box Set. The former will be a 2-disc set loaded with extras but the latter will contain the original M:i and M:i:II, including extras, plus the 2-disc M:i:III, four discs in all.

But what about HD-DVD? Well, there will be a HD-DVD conference later today. Hopefully, we'll be able to find out more on what plans they have by our next update.
