When the ASUS ZenFone series launched, HardwareZone members were the first to trial the dual-SIM Intel powered phone. Now the ZenFone 5 has gotten speedier with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, coupled with an LTE modem for speedier internet connectivity. It losses the dual SIM functionality, but the new ZenFone 5 LTE retains everything else good about the predecessor and made it faster.
To convey the differences and to allow discerning users to personally feel what the updated ZenFone can achieve, ASUS re-collaborated with HardwareZone to hold an exclusive hands-on session, just a day prior to the phone's availability at Comex. Last week's Wednesday evening event welcomed 85 participants who were among the first in Singapore to try out the new smartphone. For those who didn't manage to get a slot for the session, here's what transpired at the event:-
Mr. Derek Cheng, Product Manager of Smartphones for ASUS Singapore gave an opening address to the participants. He explained the rationale behind making the ZenFone series and how ASUS is committed to delivering affordable smartphones with great design and innovative features. You can find out more about how the new ZenFone 5 LTE model differs from the previous iteration in this news piece.
Mr. Loi Wean Fong, senior design manager of ASUS was also present at the event to talk about the design philosophy of the ZenFone series. He elaborated on the design process of the ZenFone series and how it was inspired by the ZenBook.
Each participant was issued a unit of the ZenFone 5 LTE to try out during the two-hour session. Besides enjoying a sumptuous buffet dinner, they also participated in several quizzes where they could win prizes.
To help participants familiarize themselves with the different features of ZenUI, ASUS prepared a detailed, step-by-step presentation. Staff from ASUS and HardwareZone also interacted with the participants to answer their queries.
There were two competitions held during the event. The first competition required participants to post their feedback on ASUS Singapore's Facebook Page with the hashtag #ilovezenfone5lte. Their names were written down and tossed into a lucky draw box.
The second competition was slightly tougher; participants had to be creative when taking photos with the ZenFone 5 LTE. They were encouraged to use the different camera modes and tools to enhance their photos.
The ZenFone 5 LTE will be available for purchase from August 30. There are three different models of the ZenFone 5 LTE: 1GB RAM with 8GB internal storage (S$249), 2GB RAM with 8GB internal storage (S$269), and 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage (S$299). These prices are inclusive of GST and without line contract.
