HWZ Deal Alert: 29th September 2016

Got deals, got talk!

Streaming media stick, quadcopter, OTG flash drives - there's quite a number of things to buy this week.

1.) The new Amazon Fire TV Stick

If you prefer Amazon’s Fire TV Stick over Google’s Chromecast, know that the former has just updated its dongle with a quad-core Mediatek processor, faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1 support. It can also decode H.265 video, making it a future-proof bet for streaming media. Additionally, the new Fire TV Stick supports Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa, which you can talk to with a press of the mic button on the newly designed remote.

You can now pre-order the new Fire TV Stick on Amazon for US$40, which has a release date of October 26. You’ll also receive a month of Sling TV, two months of Hulu (limited commercials), and a US$10 Amazon Video credit, assuming you’re a U.S. customer and have U.S. accounts for these services.

2.) Air Hogs Ultimate Millennium Falcon Quad

Here’s an oldie but goodie. The Star Wars Millennium Falcon Quad from Air Hogs is a copter powered by four rotors concealed in the ducts of the ship, and stabilized by onboard gyro sensors. It runs on six AA batteries, and comes complete with authentic engine sounds, LED “thrusters” that light up when you fly it with the remote (2.4GHz), and a robust design (basically impact-resistant foam).

It used to cost US$110, but you can now fly this legendary starship for US$50 if you pick it up on Amazon.

3.) SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive m3.0 OTG flash drives

In case you missed it, SanDisk has officially launched its Ultra Dual Drive m3.0 in Singapore. Designed for Android devices, this OTG flash drive works with SanDisk’s free Memory Zone app (Google Play link) to manage your files in the drive and more.

Lazada Singapore is an exclusive launch partner for the SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive m3.0, and 16, 32, and 64GB versions of the drive can now be bought on the site with some discounts. Since storage is never enough, my recommendation is to just go for the 64GB model, which is going for S$21.90 (usual price: S$30).

And while you’re on Lazada, remember to keep a lookout for the Acer Predator 8 gaming tablet. An 8-inch, 32GB, Android 5.1 tablet powered by an Intel Atom processor, it also comes equipped with a stylus and microSD support. Lazada has this tablet going for just S$110, but stock has been snapped up very quickly. But you can subscribe to get notified when the deal returns. And remember too, you can shop Lazada through ShopBack to enjoy up to 12% cashback.

4.) Newstead’s “All about Audio” roadshow

From now till October 2, Newstead is having an audio product-focused roadshow at the main atrium of the Marina Square shopping mall. Many brands are involved, and needless to say, there are discounts and free gifts to be had.

Additionally, Newstead is giving away a total of 100 sets of Orion VR goggles to HardwareZone members over two days, on October 1 and 2. More details of the roadshow and the redemption mechanism can be found in this article.

No need to FOMO, GGGMTL!
