HWZ Deal Alert: 25th January 2016

Got deal, got talk! GDGT!

Mondays are often a drag, but some say a bit of retail therapy can make things right. To help, here are some of the best deals that we found on the web today.

Polar V800 GPS sports watch

The Polar V800 is one of the best all-rounder GPS sports watches available right now. Though it doesn’t have integrated heart-rate sensor, it’s all the better for it because the optional HR monitor is what you really want because it’s far more accurate and even works while swimming. What’s nifty about the Polar V800 watch is also Polar’s smart coaching feature which rates your work-outs and helps you understand your training load and recovery needs. It’s available from Challenger for S$429 without the heart-rate sensor or S$499 with the heart-rate sensor, which represents savings of over S$200. The only catch is that you need to be a Challenger member.

Total Annihilation

Released in 1997, Total Annihilation was one of the stand-out real-time strategy games of its time and a classic of the genre. It was the first real-time strategy to feature 3D units and terrain, and this gave a whole new spin to the genre as players needed to seriously consider aspects such as elevation and line of sight. The game also enjoyed a large and active modding community where members created tons of custom units for the game, which added to its already fantastic replay value and longevity. Get Total Annihilation now, including the two expansion packs The Core Contingency and Battle Tactics, for just US$1.49. It’s available for both PC and Mac.

Transcend SSD370S 256GB SSD

If you are still using a mechanical hard disk drive as your primary drive, you owe it to yourself to get an upgrade to an SSD. With SSD prices at all time lows, there’s really no reason to still be stuck with a slow spinning drive. Though the Transcend SSD370 is an entry-level drive with not so impressive write speeds, it’s still miles quicker than any hard disk drive. The good thing is that it is available now for just S$109 for the 256GB version on Lazada. That’s just 42 cents per gigabyte! What are you waiting for?

LG Nexus 5X 32GB

Launched last October, the LG Nexus 5X is a 5.2-inch smartphone with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD) and a pixel density count of 423 ppi. It uses a 64-bit 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor (same as the LG G4 smartphone), paired with an Adreno 418 GPU for graphics, all complemented by 2GB RAM. It also has a 12.3 megapixel ƒ2.0 dual-LED rear-facing camera that can also record videos in 4K. Lazada is now offering the 32GB for S$599, which represents remarkable savings.
