Notebook Onslaught
After overtaking Dell to become the world's largest seller of personal computers and securing its position as the number one notebook vendor in the world, HP was not about to start resting on its laurels. To continue the momentum are 13 new notebooks, including a sleek, ultra-light Tablet PC and a huge 20-inch entertainment notebook - a first for HP.
More than just a mere coincidence to Intel's global launch of its "Santa Rosa" fourth generation Centrino mobile platform, this was the first time HP had launched 13 new notebooks at one go, which only serves to drive home their strong intent in the mobile computing space. In the development and design of these new notebooks, the philosophies behind the 13 new notebooks were security, ease of use and reliability, and these were materialized through both hardware and software components - more on these later.
New HP Consumer Notebook Entries
Leading the new wave of notebooks targeted at general consumers is the HP Pavilion HDX entertainment notebook PC. The Pavilion HDX is a series of notebooks targeted at users looking for a mobile home theater experience. Nicknamed "the Dragon", the biggest consumer notebook from HP to date delivers rich multimedia performance on a brilliant 20.1-inch Ultra BrightView widescreen display capable of true 1080p resolution. Audio is provided by four integrated Altec Lansing speakers and subwoofer, spelling its home entertainment value clearly. Topping it off is a dockable full-function HDX Media Center Remote Control.
The rest of the new entries to the HP Pavilion series were the HP Pavilion dv2500, HP Pavilion dv6500 and HP Pavilion dv9500. Also on the receiving end of something new was the Compaq Presario line, with debuts of the Compaq Presario V3500 and V6500. In addition to new notebooks, HP took the opportunity to unveil a new Compaq logo, making for a sleek, bold statement that's a significant departure from the old.
