Starting with SPEC CPU2000, we wanted to find out the new Phenom II's floating point and integer prowess. On the average, the top Phenom II, the 940 was about 20% faster than the previous Phenom X4 9950. Given the architectural similarities, this was not that surprising, with the higher clock speeds on the Phenom II contributing to the performance boost. The slightly slower HT link on the new Phenom II relative to the Phenom will probably also shave a few points off.
Although the Phenom II continued to lag behind the Intel quad-core processors, it was quite competitive with the Core i7 when it came to int_rate results with four threads. We did not have the 2 thread results for the Core i7-965 XE but there's no doubt that it would be ahead of the Phenom II based on what we saw.
