Where previously, we had seen the quad-core Phenom fall behind a Core 2 Duo, this was not happening with the Phenom II as even the slower 920 managed to stay in front of the Core 2 Duo 8500. In fact, the Phenom II X4 940 scored around the same as the Core i7-920 for the CPU subsection and this turned out to be an 18% increase over the Phenom X4 9950. Against the similarly clocked 3.0GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9650, the Phenom II X4 940 was about 7% behind, which all things considered, is a very decent showing.

The memory segment scores also had the Phenom II at around 20% higher than the Phenom. Of course, the higher clock speeds of the two Phenom II models contribute to the better performance, along with the higher memory speed. However, with our test setups, the DDR3 powered Core 2/i7 continued to lead in this category.
