HardwareZone Iron Tech 2008: Video Highlights
Though the Grand Finals of the inaugural Hardware Zone Iron Tech competition has come to a close, there's still more to look out for. And thus, we bring you some of the exciting moments of Iron Tech 2008 via our video coverage, spanning from the Singapore semi-finals to the concluding grand finals held at Funan DigitaLife Mall.
HWZ Iron Tech 2008 - The Movie
Iron Tech 2008 had been a ride like no other for the overclocking enthusiasts in the region. With speed, accuracy, finesse and a little bit of luck, contestants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore duked it out in a competition of wits and skill, and in the process, we discovered the reigning king of tech gurus.
For those who had not followed our coverage so far, HardwareZone's Iron Tech 2008 is a massive regional-wide tech competition involving five countries and 30 contestants in an unique challenge. Unlike the standard run-of-the-mill overclocking competition, Iron Tech features additional competition mechanics that test the contenders' skills, knowledge, speed and strategy to single out the best overall technology enthusiast.
Each region started off with the Qualification round. Based on the contestants' online submission of stock and overclocked results of their systems, this round aimed to assess and retain only 6 of the best possible contestants in each country who knew how to maximize their systems. Following that, the 6 best entries from each country qualified for the Regional Semi-Finals (subject to validation at each country's local office) and found themselves in the thick of action as they were subjected to three real-time tests: building a rig, tweaking the PC and finally benchmark performances.
With a similar set of components used during the semi-finals, this would be a true test of their overclocking skills on an even level. Here's a video summary and highlights of the action during the semi-finals held at Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand.

Iron Tech 2008 Singapore Semi-Finals

Iron Tech 2008 - The Movie II
To close off the semi-finals, each region produced 2 winners, who would be attending the grand finals in Singapore. The grand finals saw 10 contestants (two from each region) pitting themselves against each other in a battle, once more at the Funan DigitaLife Mall on the 12th of October 2008.
But what made the grand finals interesting, were the added elements of a performance:price ratio and a power consumption segment that add up to a chunk of the contestants final score. In essence, this would mean that a system that produces a higher performance at a lower cost would be more favorable to the contestants' final standing.
As such, all 10 competitors were given a choice of components, with the pricing of each component made known to them at the start. Finding the perfect balance for not only overclocking, but also the performance to price ratio, would be a arduous task, one that our contestants managed to live up to. To give you a better idea, check out the exciting moments from the videos below, and we bid you adieu (until the next Iron Tech that is.)
