Limited Edition: GA-Z97X-SOC Force LN2

Gigabyte also announced an extremely limited edition SOC board called the GA-Z97X-SOC Force LN2. According the Colin Brix of Gigabyte, only a 100 of these will initially be made. What’s special about this version of the GA-Z97X-SOC Force is that it is designed specifically for memory overclocking with LN2. This is not a board you’ll be installing for a home PC, but a dedicated board you’ll want to use to join OC competitions.

A limited edition version of the Z97X-SOC Force, this "LN2" variant only features 2 DIMM slots and specially designed for maximum memory overclocking performance.

Notice that the board only has 2 DIMM slots, which are purposely located much closer to the CPU socket to improve latency performance. Because of this, there are no heatsink bracket holes around the CPU socket either.

At today's Gigabyte press conference in Computex 2014, Gigabyte managed to reach 4.5GHz in DDR3 memory overclocking, setting a new overclocking record (the old record was 4.4GHz). This was achieved with a pair of yet to be released Kingston HyperX Predator 4GB DDR3-2933MHz memory modules.

Gigabyte team trying to reach the magic 4.5GHz number.

2250.8MHz (4501.6MHz DDR) was the speed achieved using the GA-Z97X-SOC Force LN2 board with Kingston memory, which sets a new memory overclocking record.

Achievement unlocked. FYI, 4.4GHz was the old record. There are more overclocking events happening throughout Computex, so this could be broken again.
