Show me HD Home Videos Captured with HD Camcorders!

Now that you have seen 1080p gaming and movie playback, the last part of this article focuses on home videos captured in HD format compared to the SD format most camcorders support. Currently, the latest consumer HD camcorders can only capture at 1080i resolution, but that's still a big leap up from the capabilities of regular video camcorders. Shown below are some screenshots of the difference between SD and HD video capturing on Sony's HDR-SR1:-

To showcase the capabilities of a HD video camcorder, we used the Sony HDR-SR1.

To display images on the HDTV, we used the camcorder's HDMI output capabilities that is superior to other connections.

To make a fair comparison, we captured videos in both SD and HD resolutions using the same subject, same physical setup and the same connectivity method to the HDTV where we snapped our comparison photos as shown in the following photos below.

This is the original shot captured from the HDTV. We shall only be concerned over the highlighted portion for our comparison.

Here's a snap of the HDTV playing the video clip captured in HD resolution. This still image has good clarity as opposed to the SD version shown below. If storage capacity weren't an issue, shooting in HD resolution would definitely be the de-facto choice.

Here's a snap of the HDTV playing the video clip captured in SD resolution. The image seems a little blur and is naturally less desirable than the HD version shown above.
