Cool metal and hot rides

The is the 36th Bangkok Motor Show and it was held at the Impact Arena. It runs from 25 March to 5 April.

Thailand is arguably the most important market for automakers in our region. First of all, with a population of over 67 million, Thailand is one of the most populous in Southeast Asia. And secondly, it is recognized as one of the stronger emerging economies in our region. This explains why so many automakers have factories here in Thailand. Some examples include Toyota, Honda, Ford, Volvo and even Mercedes-Benz. Automakers aside, Thailand is also home to many car accessory makers including Pioneer, Denso, Yokohama and Bridgestone.

Now into its 36th edition, the Bangkok Motor Show can trace its roots back to 1979. The show has grown in size and stature over the years, signaling Thailand’s importance as an automotive hub of the region. The show now serves as an opportunity for automakers and accessory makers to show off their models and products. Here are some of the interesting things we saw at the show, including cars and, not forgetting of course, the show girls. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

This year's Bangkok Motor Show is expected to attract over 2 million attendees. And judging from the crowds, we have no reason not to believe that.

It seems like the Thais love Mercedes-Benz as much as we do. Here are attendees checking out the new GLE-Class.

Thailand is an important market for Lamborghini in this part of the world, perhaps second only to Singapore. This is new Huracán which is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 that puts out 600hp.

The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante was introduced in 2013 and has a soft roof which folds back to allow owners to enjoy the full aural symphony of its 6-liter V12 engine.

The show was not all about supercars though, here's the new Mazda 2, small hatchback that was designed for city driving. It features stop-start technology and even has a brake energy regeneration system.

Toyota also took the chance to show off its new hydrogen-powered Mirai car, which we first saw earlier this year in Las Vegas at CES 2015.

From the very new to the really old, here's a vintage Ford Mustang which has been immaculately kept.

Speaking of vintage cars, we also saw a pristine Corvette Stingray.

The new Continental GT V8 S is a driver-centric Bentley that has improved aerodynamics and lowered suspension for increased agility. Its 4-liter V8 engine has also been tweaked to produce more power, 528hp to be exact.

Porsche has a treat for racing fans as it brought its 919 Hybrid race car to the show. This car competed at the 2014 World Endurance Championship.

The Subaru WRX STI is a boy racer favorite and can punch its way from 0 to 100km/h in just over 5 seconds.

Cars aside, there were also motor homes and caravans at the show. Anyone wants to go camping?

There's also vendors exhibiting car accessories and services such as glass coating and polishing.
