Sony Ericsson Satio - New Name, Same Hype

Sony Ericsson - Devices for Keeps

The Sony Ericsson Satio, once known as the Idou, was let out of the bag at the end of 2008 when rumors of it being the first 12-megapixel camera was splashed all over the internet. Rumors, that turned to fact, as we held the Satio in our hands during the Asia Pacific launch.

Besides being the first 12.1-megapixel camera phone under the Sony Ericsson brand, this device will follow the Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C905's footsteps with imaging features seen on dedicated digital compact cameras such as Face Detection, BestPic and Panorama Shot. The touchscreen device will be sporting the Symbian S60 Version 5.0 OS, which has been seen on devices such as the Nokia N97 and the Samung OmniaHD.

The device comes with a 3.5-inch display supporting resolutions of 640 x 360 pixels. Likewise, this translates to the 16:9 aspect ratio, which is great for viewing movies in the widescreen format on the Satio.

Once known as the Sony Ericsson Idou, the Satio will be the first device to utilize the Symbian S60 Version 5.0 touch OS, but comes with various user interface tweaks that will be intuitive and provide a high level ease of usage.

Besides having a 3.5-inch nHD screen, the Sony Ericsson Satio will come with great imaging capability with its 12.1-megapixel camera which includes Face Detection, BestPic and Panaroma Shot.
