DLP TVs had a new lease of life with LED technology. Instead of using a mercury arc lamp, LEDs were used as lighting source. This not only gives the TV better picture quality, but it eliminates the rainbow effect as well (due to the spinning color wheel). There's no need to replace the lamp of the TV and the brightness doesn't degrade over time.

Samsung's FilterBright technology eliminates unwanted reflections, giving it better contrast and better image quality. Compare the image quality of a conventional TV (left) with Samsung's FilterBright technology (right).
