The Xbox project was conceptualized in 1999. But it was only on March 10, 2000 at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose, California, Bill Gates, CEO of Microsoft, officially unveiled the Xbox to the world. It would be Microsoft's first step into the world of console gaming, looking to deliver intense, action-packed, and more importantly, fun games. The rest as they say, is history.

According to Alex, 20 Xbox titles were released on the same day as the console launch in New York. With the number hitting 30 this holiday, and 100 by the end of next year. Till date, 250 developers have already pledged support for Xbox. We were also told the release dates for Xbox entrance into the Japanese market will be February 22, and the UK and Australia market will be 14 March, 2002. Singapore (and probably other S.E. Asia countries as well) however, will not see Xbox until at least the second half of next year.

When quizzed about the pricing of Xbox in Singapore, Alex revealed that pricing plans for Asian countries outside of Japan are still in the works, but did hint that it might be similar to the US price tag of US$299. Xbox games will all be DVD media based, and to have a rough estimation of how much it'll cost locally, Alex mentioned that it will not be too far off the Australian pricing of $99. These pricing are rough estimations though, and are subjected to changes.
