This article was also contributed by Aloysius Low, Kenny Yeo and Seow Tein Hee.

Amidst all the doom and gloom that are dominating our headlines recently, it could be therapeutic to embark on some shopping to clear the dark mood. It's the holiday season after all. And what better way to do that then to indulge in some new gadgets for the family. Yes, it's that time again, the last IT show of the year, Sitex 2008 has now opened its doors at the Singapore Expo.

Covering Halls 5 & 6, including Atrium 5 and Foyer 2, Sitex 2008 will be open from November 27 to 30, 11am to 9pm daily. Our team was there to check out the best bargains and deals and you can find them all in this article. For those who are DMCard members, you can also check out our scanned brochures available here. And of course, join in the discussion forum about Sitex 2008 and find out what are the hottest gadgets now. Our retail sector needs all the stimulus it can get, so get out there and start shopping!

Acer's Booth

Acer's booth is probably the first place to head off to for those on a tight budget looking for a bargain.

All wrapped up to preserve its freshness was the 8.9-inch Acer Aspire One netbook spotted at Acer's booth. The Linux version will be going for $599 while the Windows XP will retail at $688. Specs wise both unit share the same Intel Atom platform and 1GB RAM but the Linux version will be using a 8GB NAND flash drive while the XP version will have a 160GB HDD.

If it's a cheap deal you want then this AMD Puma-based Acer Aspire 4530-723G32MI is available for just $1198 and features a AMD Turion 64x2 ATRM72 2.1GHz processor, 3GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD, 14.1-inch WXGA screen and NVIDIA GeForce 9100MG discrete graphics.

If cheap isn't on your mind - then go for broke with the Acer Aspire 8930G at $2898 that sports an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz) processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GS discrete graphics, 3GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD and an 18.4-inch display that should satisfy the eyes.

If you rather remain desk-bound, then do give the Acer Aspire X1700 some thought. This unit features an Intel C2D E7300 (2.66GHz) processor, 3GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 9300 discrete graphics, a 20-inch LCD monitor, and goes for a cheap price of just $1399!

If that's too small for you and you rather get a larger casing with a quad-core processor, then the Acer M5641-Q66MR32 might just be the one for you. The unit comes with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz) processor, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD and uses a NVIDIA GeForce 9300 graphics for just $899. Add another $399 and you can get a 22-inch LCD monitor. Not bad a deal no?
