Satya Nadella is Microsoft's New CEO

Microsoft has just announced that is new CEO is Satya Nadella. Nadella was previously Microsoft's Vice President of Enterprise and Cloud Computer. He emerged as one of the stronger candidates in recent weeks, with analyst citing his experience and intimate knowledge with Microsoft's sprawling businesses and services as being key. He will be the third CEO in the company's 39-year history.

In an internal memo to employees, Nadella said: "Today is a very humbling day for me. It is an incredible honor for me to lead and serve this great company of ours. While we have seen great success, we are hungry to do more. This is a critical time for the industry and for Microsoft. Make no mistake, we are headed for greater places - as technology evolves and we evolve with and ahead of it. Our job is to ensure that Microsoft thrives in a mobile and cloud-first world."

And as we had reported just earlier today, Bill Gates will indeed step down as Chairman of the Board of Directors and assume a more active role within Microsoft, that of Founder and Technology Advisor. Gates said that he is "thrilled" that Nadella has asked him to step up and that he will be increasing his time at the company. "I'll have over a third of my time available to meet with product groups and it'll be fun to define this next round of products working together," Gates further commented.

The new Chairman of the Board of Directors will be John Thompson, who said: "Satya is clearly the best person to lead Microsoft, and he has the unanimous support of our Board.”
