Audi Announces A3 Sedan that Features NVIDIA Tegra 3 Chip

Audi has announced its 2015 A3 sedans that will feature NVIDIA's Tegra 3 chip. The system-on-chip (SoC) is responsible for rendering 3D images of the Multi Media Interface (MMI) in-car user interface media system of the Audi A3.

More specifically, the Tegra 3 SoC is responsible for rendering the 3D images used in the online, voice control, media navigation and telephone functions of the MMI system. This is the debut of Audi's MMI in an A-segment vehicle as the company aims to raise the bar as to what is expected out of entry-level luxury sedan like the A3.

In January last year, we reported that NVIDIA was already in talks with Audi, Tesla and Lamborghini to power their infotainment systems and there are more such alliances to come and even NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang remarked that cars are the new consumer electronics devices as the company moves beyond its traditional area of expertise of desktop graphics. According to Audi, the A3 sedan will be available in their US showrooms in the first quarter of 2014. For more information and pictures of the Audi A3 sedan, please proceed to Audi's site.
