Samsung Launches Galaxy Beam and Galaxy Ace 2 in Singapore (Update)

While both phones are loaded with the Android 2.3 OS at the moment, they will be updated to Android 4.0 in Q4 2012.

Samsung announces the launch of two Android 2.3 devices, the Samsung Galaxy Beam as well as the Galaxy Ace 2, in Singapore today. We first sampled the former at MWC 2012 this year and had some hands-on time with it during the earlier Samsung South East Asia & Oceania Forum 2012. Given that the first Galaxy Beam was launched almost two years back, the upcoming Galaxy Beam will be a welcoming addition for those looking for a smartphone that can double up as a mini-projector. The 3.8-inch Galaxy Ace 2 on the other hand is squarely targeted at users looking for an affordable device with sufficient horsepower and features (800MHz dual-core processor, 768MB of RAM, 5-megapixel camera).

The Samsung Galaxy Beam will retail at $648 (inclusive of GST and without line contract) on 7 July 2012 and Galaxy Ace 2 will be available at $438 (inclusive of GST and without line contract) in July 2012.

Samsung Galaxy Beam

A smartphone that is able to project and share multimedia content on to a projector screen, it's also equally adept in projecting its content on to improvised flat surfaces such as walls or ceilings. The ultra-bright 15-lumen projector allows for crisp clarity, even outdoors. Its 5-megapixel camera lets you capture moments and display a full photo slideshow. On top of that, a wide range of multimedia content including (but not limited to) video clips, maps, business information, and games can be beamed instantly by the Galaxy Beam.

Besides the ability to share YouTube or Hulu music videos, the Galaxy Beam is also ideal for interactive gaming - users can upload their own games or choose from over 1,000 games available via Game Hub, then project games to co-players or observers to turn gaming into a shared experience.

Armed with a 1GHz processor and measuring just 12.5mm thin, the Galaxy Beam runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and comes with an incredible 8GB internal memory and powerful 2,000mAh battery.

Incorporating Samsung Hubs and ChatON services, the Galaxy Ace 2 includes HSPA 14.4 connectivity, 4GB of internal storage, and a 1,500mAh battery. Music Hub allows one-step access to over 17 million tracks at anytime; Game Hub offers users the very latest gaming titles; Social Hub allows users to view their instant messages, social network and email communications all in one single inbox. The Samsung ChatON service connects users with other phone users – across any platform – into a single community, providing easy multi-format instant messaging and group chatting.

Running on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, the 3.8-inch Galaxy Ace 2 powers on an 800MHz dual-core processor, and features a 5-megapixel camera along with a front-facing VGA camera.
