Interview with MSI Corporate Executive VP, Mr. Charles Chiang

We managed to speak to Mr. Charles Chiang, who is the corporate executive vice president at MSI, at the end of the MSI press conference at Computex 2013. Throughout the interview, his mantra was about growing the pie with the company's business collaborators.

Mr. Charles Chiang, Corporate Executive VP of MSI, spoke at the company's press event at Computex 2013.

We can see MSI's focus on the gaming and high-end market segments, are there any plans to launch Gaming desktop systems?

We don't have plans to offer our complete Gaming desktop system as this may been seen as a move to compete directly with our business partners. Instead, we have leveraged on the engineering strengths and excellent performance of our motherboards to seek business partners with existing desktop system distributors. In Europe, we have actually partnered with established system builders, who seek the brand name of  MSI's OC Certified boards as well as the newer Gaming series ones. In this manner, we can grow the pie together with these local established partners who become our business partners at the same time.

With the company's focus on high-end market segments, does it mean the company will focus less on mainstream components? Is there a deliberate effort to scale back on mainstream components?

Actually, with our new product positioning strategy, the mainstream products have been branded under our classic product segment. This product segment will allow consumers to enjoy the same engineering quality and manufacturing standards offered by the higher end product segments. There are also retailers and distributors who target the classic product market for consumers who are price conscious. As mentioned earlier, we will work together with them to grow the pie as well for this market segment.

With emphasis on user experience that is offered by an ecosystem, what has MSI to offer to enhance user experience with your products. We know that your competitors like ASUS and Acer do offer cloud storage services for some of their product range?

We believe in leaving the experts to do their jobs while we focus on delivering user experience through our quality products offered on our three product segments. We also don't subscribe to the belief of locking down our users to a MSI-only ecosystem. In fact, as you can see, during our Gaming series product showcase for our Gaming series motherboards, we have partnered with SteelSeries to showcase their professional gaming peripherals. This is our way of offering the best user experience; while at the same time, we continue to grow the pie together with our business partners.
